The book-signing!
While getting my books signed, I mentioned his stop at the Maid Rite in Quincy, Illinois during his Feasting on Asphalt (Mississippi River Run edition) show. It was my grandmother’s favorite restaurant for probably 40 years, and my dad worked there in high school. My dad and I were really pleased to see this humble establishment featured on a food show. It’s been around Quincy forever, still with the same owners, and the people who work there often stay their entire working careers. Not so much a place as an institution!
