Being from Iowa myself, I rather like this. It is all true, what he says.
Iowa is the only place I know of where the rural population is, on average, rather well-educated and liberal. I come from farmers - college educated, largely Democratic, and belonging to one of the most liberal denominations of churches in the US (the country pastor will happily celebrate your gay marriage).
The comparison made me hate redneck, bigoted, racist, backward, ultra-conservative, Christian-fundamentalist rural Texas (where I largely grew up) a lot more than I would have otherwise.
