Braveheart, if you didn’t know, is generally not a favorite of medievalists. It’s not exactly accurate. It’s one of those things where people work their asses off to figure out what did exactly go on in the 13th century, and then some dumbass makes a movie. Then, because you’re a medievalist, people feel free to tell you what’s “really true” based on their expert knowledge of Braveheart, and all you can do is stand there listening to them make ignorant, asinine comments.
Same is true of Dan Brown. I got really tired of people on planes yammering on to me about that miserable book.
This is the latest debunking of the “Braveheart stereotype” and indicates that Scotsmen were not only not blue faced, but they didn’t even wear plaid to battle. They wore thick belted saffron linen tunics called “leine croich.”
