Spam on rise after brief reprieve →
Great. 99% of email is spam. An incredibly unwelcome annoyance is controlling computers, wasting massive amounts of resources, and duping the unwary. I’m not sure I understand why people aren’t trying to figure out better ways to wage war on spammers.

It's a Nerd's Life
Jeff sent me an article today about what it is to have a nerd in your life.  It was a highly entertaining read.  Being a nerd myself, and being married to a nerd, our interactions are sometimes not of a variety that is recognizable to others.  One thing I will say about the irrelevant bucket is that I overcome this by assuming that if Jeff bothers to say something about some topic, it is...

Tanzanian witch doctors are apparently into albino body parts. “Last week, police in south-western Tanzania arrested a man who was attempting to sell his albino wife to Congolese traders. Two mothers in western Tanzania were also attacked with machetes after gangs failed to find their albino children.”

Great, now I’m going to have to cancel my Flickr account.  I will not deal with Microsoft.

GOOP?
GOOP is Gwyneth Paltrow’s new newsletter. That should say enough for some people, but just in case you like her condescending, self-important ass, why don’t you sign up for her newsletter and let her tell you about the things she’s figured out? Personally, I think I’ll avoid one more person telling me how they think I should live. In case you don’t read the Fug...

After Obama's win, white backlash festers in US →
My god, people are fucking sad. They say “a mostly defanged fringe element.” How about “a mostly deranged fringe element.”

This is a pretty stunning commentary on a lot of things.  I think it should’ve been filed under politics, not Television.

WatchWatch
At Home with John Cleese | Small Pictures John Cleese is … there’s no one quite like him. The bumper stickers, the reference to his daughter as his “favorite biped,” and the cats (and other animals) … My favorite, of course, was the books, particularly the large and lovely collection of religion books. Don’t know I’ve ever seen anyone outside of fellow...

DrWicked.com - Write or Die →
Having a problem with NaNoWriMo?  Try Dr. Wicked. Ran across this mention via Creative Construction about a site that makes you write.  Feeling like avoidance?  Procrastination?  Self-doubt?  Writer’s block? What if there were tangible reminders and grace periods and consequences to writing?  This site does that - choose from various modes (forgiving, normal, harsh and evil consequences)...

Bill Maher Has Something to Say (surprise,...
Larry King: Is Karl Rovism dead? Bill Maher: Never. Negative campaigning, mudslinging, tearing people down — that will always be in vogue. McCain did make a classy speech last night. But, you know, they all make a classy speech when they lose. What else can you do? And it does ring a little less true when only a day before you’re calling the guy a socialist, a communist, a...

Child marriage and divorce in Yemen →
Wow.  Just wow.  I try to be open-minded about cultural differences and need, but I think Arwa’s father is outside my scope of comprehension. I like how the secretary of the Vice and Virtue Committee (what a name!) argues that raising the marriage age will spread vice.  Never mind what child marriage does to the child, we wouldn’t want to spread vice.
